Goodbye Earthquakes... *sigh*

After 10 great years in the MLS, the San Jose Earthquakes are no more. I am really really bummed out. I had season tickets right behind the Quakes' bench, and I really looked forward to each game. It was often the highlight of my week that kept me going at work. Now they're gone.

The team is moving to Houston, effective immediately. At least the name "Earthquakes", logo, color scheme, and team record are staying here in San Jose. They talked a bit about an expansion team here in a bay area in the future that would take on the name and record.

F Houston. F MLS.

  1. You know, even as a Houstonian, this is sad news. Houston just isn't a soccer town, and the team is going to have to compete for press coverage with the Astros, Rockets, and Texans. I didn't even know this was happening until I read it on your blog.

So where are they going to play? We have an idle stadium, but I don't see how they could fill the Astrodome. What's the new team name going to be, the Hurricanes?

It's strange to me that the team record is staying in San Jose. If the players and coaches are all moving to Houston, how can the record stay behind? Regardless of the team name, the players on the field have a record of wins and losses from which they are inseparable.

Anyway, now you have another reason to visit!
